Nothing kills dream like an obstinate grip on entitlement, expecting the world to help bake your cake for you leaves you totally stagnant. No one owes you anything but yourself. Those who wait for time are often left without time. You define what you become, the rest efforts are sheer providence, even at that, you must still rise to your dream. Didn't the biblical axiom say, 'heaven help those who help themselves?.

Promise Emmanuel , youngest Chief Press Secretary in Nigeria had barely finished his university degree when he got hired by the government of Kogi State. Yes, an undergraduate occupying the position of a government spokesman! It happened just yesterday, in our time and witnessed by us all!!. How did this happen, you would ask! The lad saw ahead of his time and decided to prepare for it. He tortured himself to be heard with his writing. He forced his narratives crafted in captivating writing patterns into the consciousness of his readers, and in no time, he was spotted by the handlers of government and the rest as they say is now history.

The story is that this dude didn't wait for time to define his aspirations, he didn't wait for his family members to fix him anywhere, he gathered his ingredients of toils and baked his cake for himself. Who you are is not the making of anyone but yourself, blessed, of course by the benevolence of God. Rise to your chi as Chinua Achebe opined in the book 'Things Fall Apart!

Many of us waste our time waiting for manna from people instead of baking our manna. The world is full of graduates but fewer jobs, as the labour market shrinks, more graduates are churned out. The contest, therefore, becomes very stiff, vicious and tough. Everyone wants to be employed and the jobs are not there to accommodate all. This is where personal efforts become a resort. To come atop the sea of graduates, you must develop a module that can stand you out from the multitude. That way, you are free from the grip of limited resources. Employers are not looking for graduates but graduates with something unique to offer. What is your unique selling point as a graduate?

A dude in my village of Imane called Francis Dignity dropped the bag of entitlement and decided to define his time. After his NYSC service, he returned home and set up a rental service - he provided in his kitty chairs, canopy and other paraphernalia used for ceremonies. In the village, there is no week with ceremonies and the dude now bridged this need as he smiles to the bank after every ceremony. This is an example of nothing waiting for time and hinging on to entitlement.

Those who wait for others to crack their nuts are usually the frustrated ones in life. They expect their burden to be carried by others while they swim in the water of self-entitlement. Forgetting that everyone has his or her burden. As rich as Femi Otedola is, his daughter is hustling with other DJs in town. Her father's wealth is enough to last her all-time but she needed to breathe her own independence, so as, not to be forever buried in the shadow of her father.

Everyone is created for an influence and we must do everything legitimately possible to manifest our worth. University degrees should not limit our hustles. It adds to our aspirations but does not define what we become. Onogwu Galacticus Chief Spokesman to Governor Yahaya Bello didn't study mass communication but today he practices as one of the high flyers in official spokesman ship.

Let's drop the burden of self-entitlement and pick the tools that work for us and create something we can sell to the world. Be unique, be deliberate and strategic. I got the Vice President of Nigeria to write the foreword to my book #TheBuhariInUs not by the recommendation of anyone but by my deliberate push. I chose to write what would interest him and he didn't blink twice obliging me. That is being strategic and not waiting for the vehicle of entitlement to convey me to my destination. I walked to my destination.

In life, there are so many things to do without depending on anyone to help define your time. Think and think, your breakthrough is around you and in you.

Entitlemently musing
