NYCN Kogi Chapter is unarguably the most vibrant, healthy and dynamic chapter among the 36 state chapters plus the FCT. This is courtesy of the long working council tradition established by the Youth Council Stakeholders over the years and the robust relationship and attention His Excellency Governor Yahaya Bello is giving to the council.

Let it be made clear that the EBIGO concept that His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello is fostering among the 3 Senatorial Zones in the state already has a prototype in the Youth Council. Any maneuvering or queer scheming to thwart it is a reversal of His Excellency's efforts and must be resisted by all well meaning Kogi youth, stakeholders and leaders.

Down memory lane, as far back as 2005 the Stakeholders of Kogi NYCN in their wisdom made a far reaching agreement which the 3 Senatorial Zones have been benefiting unadulterated till today. It was agreed and affirmed that the Chairmanship of the State Youth Council must be rotated among the Zones. Hence, once it's time for a particular district the other two did not present candidates for chairmanship, not even aspirants. It was purely the affair of the particular Zone only. That has been working.

Below is how it has worked.

KOGI CENTRAL
1. Comr. Opotu - Pioneer Chairman
2. Comr. Faruk Mazai - 4th Chairman

KOGI WEST
1. Comr. Bala - 2nd Chairman
2. Comrs. Nihi-Alonge - 5th Chairman

KOGI EAST
1. Comr. SB - 3rd Chairman
2. ?

In another way round, below is the order of succession:
1. Central   - Opotu
2. West       - Bala
3. East       - SB
4. Central   - Faruk
5. West      - Nihi-Alonge
6. East       - ?

As the Pioneer Chairman, His Eminence Comr. Yusuff Opotu had all the grace. It was during his own transition that the agreement was made. He handed over to Comr. Bala representing Kogi West. At the expiration of Comr. Bala's tenure, he had all it could have taken to remain in office, but he honored the agreement and handed over to Comr. SB who represented Kogi East. Also, when the tenure wind down, Comr. SB didn't agitate to continue and no aspirants came from other zones because it was time for Kogi Central. That brought Comr. Faruk on board.

For emphasis, Comr. Faruk Mazai's tenure expired when his own brother, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello was already in power. He had every force to truncate the arrangement and perpetuate himself in power. But he was led by the spirit of the agreement and he ceded power to Kogi West again which Nihi-Alonge is running, but to terminate on 27th May, 2021.

To point more light to how the agreement was being enjoyed, when Comr. Nihi could no longer continue, it was still made clear that the tenure was still for Kogi West and that the Chairman must come from Ijumu Local Government where Comr. Nihi was from because it was their slot. It was honored and that brought in Comr. Alonge.

Today, Central and West having had two tenures each, it has to move naturally to Kogi East to complete the round.

May I use this medium to once again inform that Kogi East has held an elaborate Stakeholders meeting on the 16th May, 2021 and the communique of our resolutions has been in circulation. It was observed that Kogi East had always respected and honored the agreement and therefore expected to be reciprocated.

It was also held at the meeting, that the rumors being bandied about that our highly respected and amiable Hon. Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pharm. Abdulkareem Jamiu Asuku and other functionaries of State Government are behind the move to short-change Kogi East are lies and works of saboteurs and should be disregarded. That, the Hon. Chief of Staff who is a foremost driver of His Excellency's peace-building across the state could not be cajoled onto contemplating ever doing that which will overheat the state and create insecurity. The youth of Kogi East hold him in high esteem.

On the whole, it is difficult to build but easy to destroy. Let all be warned that, if the rotational agreement is thwarted, it is not the Chairmanship only that will be affected; it will definitely affect all other posts and we will have too many crises to manage and will definitely affect the patronage and endearment the council is enjoying from His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello.

Kogi East will not back out. We shall push on!

We hope that the BoT and the Stakeholders of the Council across the state will not look away while what they took time to build and nurture is destroyed just for an individual's interest. At the right time, we hope they will stamp their feet on the ground and say "It is Kogi East time."

Signed
NYCN Zonal Chairman, Kogi East
