The Senator representing the people of Igala/Bassa at the red Chamber of the National Assembly, Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho has facilitated the distribution of relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Bassa, Ibaji & Igalamela Local Governments of Kogi State.
Flagging off the distribution on Friday in Anyigba Kogi East, the Honorable Federal Commissioner, Senator Bashir Garba Mohammed of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Person expresssed the commission's sympathy to the victims and advised them to see disaster as an act of God.
Senator Garba stated that the assistance was in line with the Federal Government desire to provide succour to victims of disaster across the country, through the commission. He advised beneficiaries not to sell the items as they are meant for their personal use.
The Personal Assistant to Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho, Salisu Edibo who represented the senator applauded President Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Government for sending relief materials to alleviate the sufferings of those affected by flood and commununal clash in three Local Government Areas in Kogi East.
Comrade Salisu used the occasion to appreciate Senator Jibrin Isah for facilitating the distribution of those relief materials to the people of his constituency.
Beneficiaries of those items were overwhelmed by the gesture appreciating the Federal Government, promising to make judicious use of the materials.
It could be recalled that Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho made the plea to the Federal Government through the Ministry of Disaster Management to render support to his constituent members who were affected by flood and communal clash on the floor of the house on 5th February, 2020.
Materials distributed include food and non-food items like rice, beans, millet, palm oil, tomatoes, detergent, cooking pot, bucket and mats amongst others.
