 Kogi State government has promised to tackle environmental problems across the state in order to improve the well being of the people and bring succour to victims of erosion.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Victor Adewale Omofaiye made the pledge when he led a delegation of the World bank representatives, Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project(NEWMAP) team on an assessment tour to Kogi east. 

Mr. Omofaiye who explained that the tour was to have on the spot assessment of areas affected by erosion and also to inspect ongoing projects, said the Present administration has prioritise environmental problems in the state. 

The Commissioner promised that his ministry will ensure thorough supervision of ongoing projects as it has direct impact on the lives of the masses, noting that the government of Governor Yahaya Bello is bent on leaving legacies that will inspire the next generation. 

He urged stakeholders and communities to give the necessary support to contractors in order to create and enabling environment for speedy completion of ongoing projects. 

While speaking, the Task Team Leader of the World Bank representatives, Doctor Amos Abu described the erosion situation in Ungwa in Idah local government Area as devastating, saying that it has all the trappings of an emergency response site. 

He promised that the NEWMAP will begin work immediately on the site in an emergency response mode to reduce vulnerability and bring succour to the people of the community.

The team leader commended the State Project Coordinator, Barrister Ladi Jatto for her resilience and tireless effort in ensuring that victims of erosion gets succor. 

Earlier, the delegation led by the Commissioner, Mr Omofaiye made a courtesy call on the Attah of Igala Doctor Michael Oboni Ameh the second. 

Speaking at the Palace,  the National Coordinator of NEWMAP, Alhaji Salisu Dahiru thanked the royal father for his continued prayers and support, saying NEWMAP in Kogi has recorded huge success because of the support from the state government and the royal father. 

Responding, the Attah of Igala  Doctor Michael Oboni Ameh the second, thanked NEWMAP for coming to the aid of communities and persons affected by erosion and assured of his support to the projects.
