Sir Lucky Omoluwa: dies at 65
The death has been announced of Sir Lucky Omoluwa, 65, chairman of Pinnacle Communications Limited, at the heart of the trial of suspended director-general of the National Broadcasting Commission over illegal payment of N2.5billion to his company.

Multiple reports, quoting Omoluwa’s family and associates said he died at the National Hospital, Abuja, after an illness that came suddenly on Saturday.

He was admitted at a hospital and was eventually discharged.

He reported for work on Monday, but his illness relapsed early Tuesday morning. He was then rushed to the National Hospital, where he died.

He was born on 6 March, 1954.

His death came few days after President Muhammadu Buhari suspended Modibo Kawu, director-general of the agency from office to make for Omoluwa and Kawu’s unfettered trial by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission(ICPC)
Both men and Pinnacle’s COO, Dipo Onifade, are facing trial for a digital switchover(DSO) fraud to the tune of N2.5 billion.

They were arraigned before Justice Folashade Ogunbanjo-Giwa of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
They all pleaded not guilty and have described the charge as politically motivated by interest groups that were unsuccessful during the licensing rounds of the DSO process.
Until his death on Tuesday, Omoluwa strongly denied the corruption allegations, and even counter-sued the ICPC for defamation, seeking N1 billion in damages.

Omoluwa, a devout catholic was knighted by the Pope Benedict X1 as a Knight of Saint Sylvester (KSS) in 2010.

He had also received honours from telecom equipment maker Harris(now Gates Air) and the United State Department of Commerce, for his company’s role in providing digital radio and television transmitters and support/maintenance as well as all allied equipment in the broadcast engineering communications business within Nigeria and across Africa.
