Except for those who don't have any mutual friend in Kogi East, Facebook news feed was agog with pictures from the ancient Ega waterfront on the first night of the new year in celebration of a gradually becoming annual festival among all class of the society.

From the old to young it was as I saw posts from hectagenarians descending with Youths in or about a decade less to their first generation age(30) snapping with different styles and poses on the social media. From Facebook to Twitter, Instagram to Snap chat and even whatsapp groups were series and loads of different versions and captions from the said event.

Been an immediate past commissioner for Youths and Sports Development who enjoys enormous followership from the Youths, admirations from the old, goodwill from friends and solidarity from supporters of the New Direction Government, a two year old initiative of the young, intelligent, brilliant, promising, prolific and fast rising Prince Sani Ogu Salisu named as the "SOS Picnic" is becoming a festival of itself.

Of course, nothing would have amazed me if not for the post of one Facebook user - Isah Junior, who I will be right to describe as a sworn online enemy of the immediate past commissioner for Youths and Sports Development captioned "Great hangout with friends at Idah Beach, special thanks to Prince SOS for this initiative. What a good way to start new year". I refused to believe my eyes and so, made a second reading and from there, I saw the bigger picture(unity) of the fun-filled but unsong annual picnic convened and sponsored by Prince Sani Ogu Salisu.

Not only did the "SOS Picnic" United the convener with perhaps his former antic, it also brought together many fiends and family across board, class, social status, age and ideology who may not have the chance to have seen themselves after a long while.

Special thanks to the beautiful scenery of nature, the abundant land mass of Ega river Bank, the friendly evening weather of harmathan coupled with the crystal ductility of the dry clay soil that make up the said beach, everyone had a nice time. And to say the least, worldwide DJ'Slamin was adding sounds to the grandeur of all who have forgotten their worries upon arrival at the beach.

It suffices to at this point say, the young but very ebullient Prince Sani Ogu Salisu is "Advancing Unity Via Recreation" by the virtue of the togetherness, friendship, purposes and goodwill his annual picnic is bringing to Idah and by extension Kogi East at a time the area is craving for peace.

My message is therefore; as we are setting goals for the new year, let us collectively agree to put aside negative thoughts and concentrate our forces only on the ideas that's its long run will  improve the larger society for the better as such will create other opportunities for all to celebrate and take pride as a people the way everyone felt at the picnic. We cannot always agree with ourselves but frequent get togethers avails us the opportunity to agree after we have disagreed and such is the building block of a modest society... I hope to see you at the Ega waterfront for SOS picnic on 1st January, 2021.

Until then, accept it that SOS is setting a pace; support him or come up with something better!
