As the Chairman of Project Light Up Kogi East, (PLUKE), the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Chief Edward Onoja, paid a synergy courtesy call to the home of the current Minister of State for Power, Goddy Jedy Agba to synergize on the PLUKE project embarked upon by administration of His Excellency, the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello who has concluded all plans to light up  communities in Kogi East presently in perpetual darkness, which hosts the largest Senatorial district in the state and also doubles as the darkest with over 90% of the entire rural areas in the district without electrification.

The Deputy Governor disclosed how a target has been set to lift out over 100 communities, yearly, out of darkness by the current administration.  He also highlighted the gap of underdevelopment bedeviling the region due to absence of electricity which is a vital engine of industrialization and socioeconomic  development in all societies. He condemned the negligence until the administration of Governor Bello, by past Governors who left the region in total darkness with over 90% of rural areas in outright cut-off from civilization amounting to poverty and low substandard of living for the Senatorial district that boasts of the highest number of local Government areas in Kogi state. As a fall out, renewable power models would also be applied in some selected communities.

He  also assured the readiness of the New Direction Government to actualize the project phase by phase as the 2020 budget housed the PLUKE project which was also signed into law late December,  2019. He also used the occasion to talk about the responsive and responsible leadership which Governor Bello has provided to the region, citing the PLUKE project as a legacy project amongst other infrastructure such as roads, water and human resource empowerment which he has done for the region, unlike the past.

The Minister welcomed the Synergy visit, assuring the Kogi state Government of readiness to collaborate with her to actualize the project. He thanked the Deputy Governor for the visit which he says goes to show the readiness of Kogi state Government to actualize the project.

The PLUKE project already is underway,  with feasibility and stock taking studies in advanced stages of bridging the electricity gap in the Senatorial District.
