The framers of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria can be said to be tremendously utopian in their thoughts and conclusion on thinking that individuals that will emerge as President, Governor and even Local Government Chairmen will at all time be men proven integrity, of exemplary character and would be above board in their dealings while in office.
They enshrined into the law of the land what is called immunity, that is, that a sitting President or Governor cannot be prosecuted no matter their infractions against the law of Nigeria and humanity, for as long as they are in office.
Immunity clearly is a licence for unbridled pride and impunity with its antecedent vices like corruption, stealing, wickedness, arrogance and pride elevating them beyond human limit.
The mode and system by which these rulers emerges was not carefully envisaged into reasonable details, the consequences such draconian law will breed into the system. These includes impunity, arrogance and myriads of other ungodly conducts and behaviour,
But then, you know the day by the morning, says an old adage. This is to say that what dawn offers tends to hint you of what will happen in the day.
Any law that confers such authority and power on an individual ought to be seen as dangerously draconian, a time bomb as it can never be adequately humanly managed, especially in a clime like ours
The way a leader gets into office and the enabling precepts, as a President or Governor will greatly determine the trajectory of his mission and commission in office.
That fortunately is exactly the case with President Muhammadu Buhari, the President and the Commander in Chief of the Armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
But for the not very cordial relationship that existed between the Presidency and the eighth Assembly, given the antecedence of the nature and the very notably noble character of the President, immunity would today have been expunged from our legal system.
That would reasonably have been the first step in the fight against the hydra headed corruption that is degrading and eating up the Nigeria nation.
The genuineness and the incorruptibility of President Buhari's conducts and charater in the various offices he had occupied in the past, including as head of state of the Federal Government of Nigeria, by good works, a lifestyle that severally passed the litmus test of many skeptical Nigerians bore great fruits as he assumed leadership at the most checkered moment in history and therefore cannot be immunity friendly
But then, the Buhari regime no doubt experienced troublous moments as the old corrupt system aided and supported by an ungodly system of immunity will not let go without a fight, the devil almost rub us of Buhari through ill health.
For every victory in life, a temptation lurks in the corner.
Henry Mitchell McCracken, Chancellor of New York University, founded the Hall of Fame in 1900 to honour and recognise persons of great achievement who have left indelible marks on the history and culture of America.
The Hall of fame is been replicated all over the world including the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Nigeria Hall of Fame will no doubt house Muhammadu Buhari amongst great men and women the country Nigeria had been blessed with when the time is ripped to showcase his stewardship and impacts on Nigeria, Nigerians and humanity
Our own Hall of fame in Kogi state when conceived will include persons who had accomplished unusual achievements and feats in the administration of the state and in business, whose names must be enshrined as worthy sons and daughters of the state.
Nothing punctures and deflates a society or a state and its civilisation faster than when they are saddled with leaders of terribly wrong attitudes and characters who because the law of immunity guarantees them, flagrantly displays impunity, arrogance, pride, and stubbornness in office.
The consequences of such characters taken too far damages not just the fabrics of the societies but also ruins the political career of such leaders resulting in moral and character lapses not capable of insuring, ensuring and sustaining them for the next level.
Nothing in this life last forever. When destiny magnanimously bestows leadership on you as a President or a Governor, it is exactly the phase the clarion call is made to you to be humble, calculatingly civil, exuding such rare traits and character in integrity that not just heavens will notice but humanity too can testify as is exemplary the case with President Muhammadu Buhari and for which Nigerians massively voted him as their leader.
Let those leaders who have ears tell those without that the place they are today is dangerous, a trap that may make them step on peoples toes and most easily offend Heavens.
They should therefore share good relationship with their subjects, desist and restrain from unfriendly friends who portrays their people as their enemies. There can only be movement without direction when a leaser sees the same people they are elected to lead as their enemy
It is too certain that the same law that granted the leaders immunity with which they granted themselves impunity also guarantees that some day you will not be in that office neither will you have have the same opportunities.
In Kogi state, If we hope to have a stable and more peaceful state, build people and characters after the order of President Muhammadu Buhari, people that make it to the hall of fame, we must not yield to the lure of continue complaining and murmuring.
Come November 16 2016, Kogi people must resist every form of intimidation, troop out and vote for such persons that can uphold the very reasonable standard in human relationship and governance. If Kogi citizens must continue to be reckoned among civilised people
Kogi people must vehemently oppose every attempt of the devil and its agents to corruptly weaken and discourage their resolve for change and the standard.
The characters of leaders that will emerge after the November gubernatorial election must be worthy of good example for younger generations to follow. Such Governor must be capable of working reasonably and assiduously so that as the hall of fame is being compiled, he may not be ambiguously considered.
Such leader must be capable of treating Kogi citizens with sincerity and humility. These are things he would be remembered long after the expiration of the legal tenure.
This message is for supposedly the wise reasonable and responsible leaders.
Kogi people must not continue to wander aimlessly in the maze of life when the likes of Admiral Usman Jibrin is here to show the way.
They must not fail to connect to the true source ! They must not be moved into a panic mode even as they are clearly poised toward political hostilities, rather than break, their hearts should be heighten towards hope.
