With the victory of Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello as the standard bearer of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the just concluded APC governorship primary election held yesterday at the Lokoja's township stadium, the coast seems clearer for the 'white lion' to continue his occupation in Lugard House.
The Governor won his party ticket with a wide margin of over 3,220 votes defeating his closest rival Hon Alh Sanni Lullu who polled the paltry 100 delegate- votes.

Before the primary election, some influential aspirants who would had given the incumbent governor a good fight for his money were technically disqualified by the Senator Hope Uzodima's led APC national screening committee. The big weight politicians are immediate past Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Admiral Usman Jibrin (rtd), immediate Director General of NARSDA, Prof Seidu Onailo and others who could not made the APC cleared list.

From the beginning of this contest, many political analysts were of the opinion that the victory of APC and  President Muhammed Buhari in the last general election in Kogi State will automatically pave way for the second coming of Gov Yahaya Adoza Bello.

For this reason, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), went to towns, villages and engaged in House to House and Door to Door campaign with the aim of mobilising voters against the candidature of President Muhammed Buhari and other APC candidates in the election but unfortunately our people play deaf ears to this liberation call for the unreciprocal love they have for President Muhammed Buhari and APC as a party.

Gov Bello led the APC campaign in Kogi State and when the party won almost all the seats in the state, Gov Bello took the glory and attributed the success of the party to his achievement in Kogi State.

For Igalas, we were fooling ourselves that we would snatch the APC ticket from Gov Bello banking on the National Chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomole. At the rally in Ojoku organised by the Restoration Forum, a sociopolitical organisation formed by intellects of Enjema/Ojoku with the aim of supporting credible candidates ahead of 2019 general election, Hon Alh Ibrahim Abagwu, PDP aspirant as member, Ankpa 1 constituency told the gathering that 'if truely we want to unseat GYB in November, the first step is to block his cronnies from winning any elective positions and in extension to President Muhammed Buhari, that will be a clear message for his party to desert him ahead of the election and it will be near impossible for us to remove him if all his anointed candidates won. When you want to cut off the tree, you start from the root!', Hon Abagwu charged. Few hours to the election, the slogan changed to 'we will vote Buhari but not GYB', PMB won, and GYB claimed the victory, that's actually where our problems started from.

We refused to listened to wise counsel and even those that supposed to know where blinded with sentiment and at the late hour we are crying for help, where is Buhari? Where is Oshiomole? Igala is finished in APC and I believed they (Igala) may be fooled again in 2023 to stand with Buhari's anointed candidate for president and other contestants under the broom party.

President Muhammed Buhari deliberately inflicted more pains to our sore wound by given the ministerial slot of the state to non Igala who made over 60% population of the state to less than 10% indigenous Kakanda tribe. This action is a clear manifestation of deep hatred demonstrated by President Muhammed Buhari to Igala nation who  wholeheartedly supported his presidential aspiration.

Its on record that the only time Igala was not given a ministerial position was during President Olusegun Obasanjo's regime where he favoured his Okun dialect of Yoruba speakers in the state and named Prof Eyitayo Lambo as the Minister of Health but he gifted Igala with the port folio of Senior Special Assistant to President on Labour and Productivity, Dr Steven Makoji Achema, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isaac Alfa (rtd) and Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Usman Jibrin (rtd) while Igala had a governor, late Prince Abubakar Audu from the opposition All Peoples Party, (APP).

The other time when Igala had similar opportunity was during President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ), whom we deeply despised his benevolence to Igala people. GEJ appointed Admiral Usman Jibrin (rtd) as Chief of Naval Staff, Chief Humphrey Abbah as Minister of State for Health and earmarked Itobe, a village in Igala kingdom for a refinery but we opted for PMB who never cared to condoled us when we lost a political icon, Prince Abubakar Audu.

In 2019, when many thought that a message of rejection could be sent to PMB through our votes, we mumuisly voted for him and now he wants his political son to continue as our Governor. Please stop crying let's all enjoy the heaviness of sky we brought on ourselves.

PDP as the only hope

PDP would had been the only option to redeemed the battered image of Igala people in Kogi Politics but parochial interest of some selected stakeholders may likely swindled the chance of opposition party to win the poll.

Aside the Gov Bello's strategies, the major undoing of PDP is the likely hoisting of an unpopular candidate to fly the flag of the party. The three strong contestants, Dr Victor Alewo Adoji, Dr Joseph Erico Ameh and Senator Dino Melaye who may enjoy the mass appeal may find it difficult to clinch the ticket for fmr Governor Ibrahim Idris son, Alh Abubakar Ibrahim Idris and the defeated fmr Governor Capt Idris Wada who is also in the race. If for any reason, any of the latter succeeded in the PDP primary, Governor Yahaya Bello will be comfortably returned as the Governor of the Confluence State.
