A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr Victor Adoji has vowed to transform Kogi state from a civil service state to an entrepreneurial hub where jobs and business opportunities would be created for the people of the state.

Speaking at the ongoing media parley organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Lokoja on Monday, the former banker call on the generality of the people of Kogi state across the three senatorial districts to embrace the tenet of democratic governance as against the tyranny, oppression, violence that is currently in vogue in the state.

Adoji promised that he would use the peculiarity of the state’s local economy to bring it at par with states like Lagos, Kano and Rivers.

The aspirant noted that the fortunes of Kogi state would witness complete and holistic transformation from the current stereotype consumer economy to producer economy using the abundance commercial natural resources in the state maximally.

“Having run for the Kogi East senatorial seat at the last general elections where both the processes and outcome were marred and characterised by malpractices and inconsistencies, one would have naturally wanted to take a break.

“However, the desire to contribute my quota to the improvement of the lives of our people has compelled me to succumb to their entreaties to aspire for governorship of the state.

“My political aspiration is driven by sheer passion for service and the need to provide credible and people oriented leadership which has eluded our state and people since our return to democracy.
“I am not in race for personal gains, but to offer myself as an instrument for community service. Our goal is to improve the living condition of our people through innovative and programmatic governance.
“I am not unaware of the economic challenges coupled with the prevalent ineptitude in leadership that is bedeviling the state presently with the good people of the state who are yearning for positive change and transformation I would evolve a template that would rejuvenate the state.

“We all know that for a better Kogi state all that is required is a communion that functions properly, the leadership that is pro-actively responsive, and a people that are hopeful and forward looking.”

On salary payment, Adoji said, “in conformity with global best practices, payment of civil servants and political office holder’s salaries and emoluments is not an achievement, but a routine legitimate duty of the state government.

“The core value of human existence should be upheld in order to usher in a re-engineered socio-political and economic development in Kogi state in an atmosphere of peace and unity,” he said.
